Venus, 4x6in, acrylic on heavy watercolor paper, 2025.

Venus is a 4×6 inch portrait painted in acrylic and gouache on heavy watercolor paper, created in 2025 for the Art in the Pearl exhibition.

A Black woman is rendered in vivid chartreuse and olive greens, her skin alive with textured, layered brushwork that gives the surface a lush, almost mossy quality. Golden yellow hair fans out around her face like sunlight or a halo, set against a cool turquoise sky dotted with soft clouds. Her lips are painted in dusty blue-grey, her lashes slashed with red, and her neckline bleeds into a rich, warm red top. The whole palette vibrating with an energy that feels immediately contemporary.

The color choices call to mind Andy Warhol's flat, saturated pop sensibility, a willingness to let color be emotionally true rather than literally accurate. But where Warhol was cool and mechanical, Venus is warm and painterly. You feel the hand in every stroke. She is nature herself: green as new growth, golden as afternoon light, rooted and radiant. A Black woman not just in nature but as nature — unhurried, unapologetic, breathing.

Original painting. One of a kind. Ships carefully packaged.
